About Andy English

Hi I’m Andy English, the writer, producer and narrator of Hedley Boys, A Small Town’s Big Part in the Great War.

The podcast was the culmination of 7 years of research.

In 2013 myself and my Hedley Museum colleague, Jennifer Douglass started research on the men commemorated on the Hedley Cenotaph. Our research led to 2 museum displays, 2 published articles and the addition of 2 more men on the Cenotaph during the restoration project in 2017.

The past 2 years i have prepared and presented a Cenotaph speech for the 100th Anniversary of the end of WW1 and continued on with the research into the Hedley Boys. Further piecing their stories together. The result is the 9 part podcast Hedley Boys, A Small Town’s Big Part in the Great War.

In 2020, Hedley held its 100th Remembrance Service with a reduced crowd due to Covid and the event was livestreamed on Facebook

Andy English at the Hedley Cenotaph 11th November 2016. That year i gave the address and read Bert Schuberts letter to Hedley. Every year Hedley has one of the best attended Remembrance Services.
